Hi Fellow Doodlers!

May Day is on the 1st in the U.S. (May 3rd UK May Day Holiday) and is celebrated in many places around the world. The traditions and stories surrounding May Day vary from place to place. There is however, one thing that is similar in most celebrations – the use of FLOWERS!

A popular activity on May Day is to decorate a pole with brightly colored ribbon or paper streamers. Some add flowers and balloons. People then dance around the May pole, holding the ends of the streamers or ribbon in their hands twisting them around the pole.

MINI MAY DAY BASKETS

One of the most popular known May Day traditions is to hang a basket full of spring flowers and/or other small gifts on a neighbors doorknob. The trick is you don’t want the neighbor to see you! If you get caught, you are suppose to get a kiss. So surprise your neighbor, friend, co-worker with a special, home-made May Day Basket! You can fill the basket with flowers, or home-made paper, foamie, paper mache, silk, or dried flowers, or a variety of flower seed packets!

Mother’s Day is May 9th and here’s some black & white printable coupons you might want to add to mom’s card! Click on printable ideas for an assortment of other printable fun things to do!

Doodling Some Card Ideas!

By Diane · Comments (0)

Hi Fellow Doodlers!

I haven’t had much time in the past few months to design projects and thought I needed to get busy with some inspirational ideas that I’ve come up with … I really think that most of my creations happen by accident although I begin with some sort of idea — because I couldn’t of possibly of known that these would turn out this cute (tee-hee)!

I usually begin by selecting my image, then hunt down a ‘sketch’ that I find interesting as well as a card size — then comes the paper and cardstock! After printing several sizes of mu image onto one sheet I select the color pencil combination that best compliments both the image and paper/cardstock I’ve selected.

Coloring the images begins, and doing several images at one time allows me the freedom to find out what I do and don’t like about my ‘coloring’. Then it’s all a matter of letting your imagination put the parts together!

IMAGE & PRINTED SIZE: Fluttering Threesome - in your program make the full image size: 5.60 x 5.60

CARD SIZE: 6-1/2″L x 4-1/4″W. Polka Dot Panel: 5-7/8″L x 1-1/4″W. Image Panel: 5″L x 2-3/4″W.

PRISMACOLORS USED: PC1006-Parrot Green, PC930-Magenta, PC1003-Spanish Orange, PC1033-Mineral Orange, PC1077-Colorless Blender.

PAPERS: My Mind’s Eye – Bloom & Grow by Zoe Pearn, #B&G139-Spring In Bloom, #B&G137B-Blue-green Vines and Adventure Series by Jen Wilson, #BF1730-Pretty Rad Polka Dots. Close To My Heart Spring Blossom Combo Cardstock, Creme Burlee, Sorbet, and Juniper.

“Congratulations!” stamp: #97627 Inkadinkado Thinking Of You Stamp Set. Versa Magic Dew Drop Chalk Ink – Clowning Around set – Red Magic.

Other stuff used: Krylon Paper Finishes – Make It Iridescent (transforms any paper into an iridescent finish — shimmery, sheer color) or Scribble Crystal Gel Sparkle, EK Success Corner Rounder (green one), Viva Pearl Pen “Cream” assorted colors available at Susana’s Custom Art and Card Design [everyone needs some of this stuff], and Close To My Heart Liquid Glass, Pebbles Inc. Chalks-Basic Brights.

7 Kids College Fund site has the New Zutter Distress Electronic Tool machine available for all you Shabby Chic/distressed look designers! Makes it quick and easy.

Over at OODLES OF DOODLES NEWS Valerie has a new challenge for everyone to participate in and you could be the winner of 2-free images of your choice! Also, Oodles of Doodles News is looking for ‘Guest Designers’. If selected, there’s no monetary compensation, but you can get a free image to use on your submitted project! Interested designer’s please contact Design Team Coordinator, Valerie!

Friday Freebie

By Diane · Comments (7)

Hi Fellow Doodlers!

It’s a raining and pouring Friday morning which all makes for a day to stay inside — get busy with some of my unfinished artwork and projects! I do my crafting during the daylight hours because of my eye disease difficulties, and sunless days don’t make it all that easy!

However, one thing that I’ve done [and highly recommend], is to take my “electrician” father’s advice and install “day lighter” type light bulbs in my artroom’s overhead lighting and lamps!! They are by General Electric (GE) and are called, REVEAL light bulbs. A tiny-bit pricey and available in various wattage (also 3-way). Once you use these light bulbs you’ll never go back to any other — I was so impressed that I now use them throughout the rest of the house! Your eye’s will notice the difference right away especially if you are someone who colors digi images by lamp light. These light bulbs are great for those of you  read in the wee hours of the night and you’ll notice that your inside photo taking won’t have that “yellowish” lamp lighting tinge that sometimes happens! Even taking photo’s of your projects will take on a whole-new-light of vibrance … try them and let me know what you think?!

It’s also another Friday Freebie day! And Wednesday, April 21st, Valerie’s design team members added some more gorgeous projects to Oodles of Doodles News as well as another Challenge that ends April 26th … every Wednesday Valerie announce’s a new challenge – your participation could get you 2 free images for a winning project. So be sure to visit often!

This freebie is called, Tea Chair, and is available for a limited time onlynow available for purchase and listed in the New Release category.

Hi Fellow Doodlers!

“Here’s a little tutorial that will show you how to prepare your print outs [inkjet] so that they’re ready for adding watercolor paint [pencil or marker] to them … ” - Claire

Making Handmade Cards eNewsletter has a great video showing the use of “Inkjet Fixatives and Watercolor” that may also be helpful for “marker” artists too! Just click on the highlighted MHCeN to access Claire’s video.

Our digital stamp inventory is growing with more new images and so does the Designer Sample Gallery … be sure to browse often. Design Team Coordinator, Valerie U. requested some golfing images … just had to show-off the project that clever girl came up with! These images can be found in the New Release category. Of course, all new project ideas can be seen at Oodles Of Doodles News!
